Section 44AB tax audit — explained simply

Tax audit under Section 44AB is a compliance milestone, not a surprise exam — if you track turnover and keep documents during the year.

What tax audit is (and is not)

It is a report by a Chartered Accountant on specified particulars of your accounts for income-tax purposes. It is not the same as a Companies Act statutory audit, though some businesses need both.

When it typically comes into play

Applicability depends on turnover or gross receipts and other conditions under the Income-tax Act (including presumptive taxation interactions). Thresholds change. Confirm with your CA against the current year’s numbers — do not copy a WhatsApp forward.

What the auditor needs from you

Clean books, GST reconciliation, fixed assets, loans, and related-party clarity. Use our Chhattisgarh tax audit checklist as a starting pack.

Timeline mindset

Start document collection well before the filing due date. Last-week audits create avoidable qualifications and stress. Gupta Karan & Co runs tax audits from Raipur — details on audit services.
