How SMB ERP implementation actually works

Buying a license is the easy part. Implementation fails when process is unclear, data is dirty, and nobody owns go-live week. This is the sequence that works for Indian SMBs.

Step 1 — Discovery before demos

Write down how purchase, stock, sale, and month-end close work today. If you cannot explain it on one page, no vendor demo will save you. A CA-led discovery catches GST and books risks early — see ERP implementation in Raipur.

Step 2 — Process map

Map the happy path and the ugly exceptions: returns, job work, branch transfers, cash sales. Exceptions are where implementations die.

Step 3 — Clean masters

Item codes, HSN, units, and party ledgers must be cleaned before migration. Garbage in becomes permanent after go-live.

Step 4 — Configure and train

Configure for your entity, then train the people who will click every day — not only the owner. Parallel run where risk is high.

Step 5 — Go-live and support

Cutover with a checklist. Keep a named person for the stabilisation window. Pair with ongoing GST if returns must stay clean.
